Unilever tells staff: work from home … if it’s not too far from the office – The Times

Unilever is tackling the Covid trend of employees moving to the South of France and beyond to work remotely by insisting they live within a 24-hour commute of the office.

The Dove soaps to Ben & Jerry’s ice cream giant employs 150,000 people worldwide — 6,000 in the UK. As with other companies, many have moved far away from their normal workplace as they work from home.

As the company attempts to get them to the office on flexible terms, it is insisting that employees must be able to get reach the office at a day’s notice if called in for an emergency meeting.

In Unilever’s terms for employees, this is called a “reasonable commute”.
